CT staring at another $1B deficit after next state election

Since Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s administration announced state income tax receipts were lagging due to weak stock market earnings, much of the Capitol’s focus has been on the relatively small hole it opened in the current budget. But the projected loss of $100 million in tax receipts this year also exacerbates a much bigger budget problem just down the road.

Some Democrats ready to talk about state worker concessions

Republican state legislators no longer are the only ones talking about an immediate need for new concessions from state employees. The top Democrat on the legislature’s Appropriations Committee, Sen. Beth Bye of West Hartford, confirms that Democrats on her panel have discussed the possibility of worker furloughs to mitigate recent cuts to hospitals and to services for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled.

Lembo joins dissent over Malloy’s emergency budget cuts

State Comptroller Kevin P. Lembo distanced himself Thursday from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, calling his fellow Democrat’s emergency budget cuts premature and warning they could harm the state’s economy. A top administration official shot back, "We are making those tough decisions when we must, not shirking our responsibilities for political convenience.”

Despite Malloy’s assurances, last CT budget closes in deficit

It’s official. State government finished the last fiscal year in deficit, despite assurances from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy that this would not happen. Comptroller Kevin P. Lembo officially closed the books Wednesday on the 2014-15 fiscal year – which ended June 30 – determining it finished $113.2 million in the red.
